e4e Support Page

This page aims to provide answers to technical and procedural issues concerning the e4 e-conference.

What is the e4 econference (e4e)?

To open up the discussion and allow the broadest possible participation in the E4 initiative, we will be holding an e-conference prior to the E4 conference in Dakar in May. The e-conference will take place over a period of five weeks, between April 12th and May 14th.

How does it work?

Each week of e4e will focus on one theme. We will publish discussion papers by various authors, and invite you to participate in a public debate around these. Each week will be hosted by two moderators, who will lead the discussion and summerise its contributions and present them to the e4 conference in Dakar.

How do I access the discussion papers?

The discussion papers will be provided in PDF and plain text, and will be accessible from a page dedicated to the week when they are discussed.

How do I participate?

Each week will kick-off with a keynote session. The details will be provided on the week’s page. That page will also host an on-line conversation, in the form of a threaded forum. The main event of the week will be an interactive session led by the week’s host, either by embedded video or through Elluminate web conferencing.

Preferably, you should register for the discussion, but anonymous contributions are possible. At the bottom of each week’s page you will find a threaded discussion element. Just type and click!

How to register

Do you have an account on Facebook, Twitter or Wordpress.com, or do you have an OpenID?
Then click on the relevant button in the forum section (at the bottom of each week’s page) and log in with your existing account details.

No account yet?
Then please click on the IntenseDebate button at the bottom of each week’s page. You will see a link to create a new account.

Why logging in when I can post anonymously?
We try to be as open as possible. However, openness unfortunately attracks spam, therefore all comments from users without an account must be approved by our moderators, hence it may take a while before your comment will appear. If you are logged in with an IntenseDebate account, only your very first comment needs to be approved. Every subsequent comment will be published instantly.

Joining live Elluminate sessions

Elluminate is a web-based audio-graphic conferencing tool we will be using for live sessions. The client you will use allows you to hear the speaker and other participants, view slides and other resources, and participate by voice or text chat. You will need headphones / speakers to listen to the session and a microphone if you wish to talk.

The Elluminate client is a Java web appliation. Normally it does not require any software installation, however it does require Java to be installed on your computer and it will take a few minutes to launch the first time you use it. Please visit the Elluminate support room now to verify that your computer is properly configured.
