Introduction

To open up the discussion and allow the broadest possible participation in the E4 initiative, we will be holding an e-conference prior to the E4 conference in Dakar in May. The e-conference will take place over a period of 5 weeks, between April 12th and May 14th. Each week will focus on one of the themes emerging from the situation analysis produced for the conference:

April 12th – 16th Poverty, intersecting inequalities and girls’ rights to education
April 19th – 23rd Quality education for gender equality
April 26th – 30th Breaking the silence: contesting violence and girls’ education
May 3rd – 7th Connecting social policy: climate change, health, AIDS and girls’ education
May 10th – 14th Convergence week

Each week will be hosted by two moderators from the field. They will monitor, facilitate and if necessary moderate the on-line discussions.

Introductory sessions will be webcast live via Elluminate audio-graphical conferencing, and will also be recorded and made available for off-line viewing.

The discussion on the site will continue for a few days after the keynote, and then we will publish a report summarising the emerging issues and insights.

In the convergence week the public will have a last chance to discuss the issues.

A report summarising the e-conference will be published on-line and presented at the conference in Dakar.

Who should attend?

First and foremost: you! Bring your experiences from practice. We particularly welcome participation from academics, practitioners, and policy makers.

How do I participate?

  • You can join our weekly webcasts to hear an overview of the issues arising from the discussion papers, or watch the recording. Access details will be published on the relevant week pages.
  • You can join the conversation by reading, responding to or opening new threads on the discussion at the bottom of each week’s page.

We aim to be as open as possible, so you can join the discussion without registration. However, you may wish to register/login for added comfort. Instructions on how to use our discussion system can be reviewed in this screen recording.
